The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum
The Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA):
‘The early learning goals establish expectations for most children to reach by the end of the [early years] foundation stage.’
We work from the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework which sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old. All schools and Ofsted registered early years providers must follow the EYFS.
There are four guiding principles in the EYFS, we believe it is important that these principles are used when implementing the seven learning and development areas in the EYFS.
The principles are: -
1.
Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
2.
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
3.
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
4.
The importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates.
At Tiny Tiggs our curriculum is designed to provide first-hand learning experiences and allow children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers to enable them to challenge themselves.
We ensure the content of the curriculum is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners and is taught in a logical progression so that children build on prior learning.
We plan through a topic-based approach on an annual basis, but these plans are adapted and amended to address the ever growing and changing needs and interests of all our children.
We recognise that language and communication are vital in all areas of a child’s development. We welcome children from culturally diverse backgrounds and many of our children are at an early stage of learning English as an additional language.
We support children’s development by providing a language rich environment, where conversations, singing and sharing stories become a regular part of the children’s day.
Sports activities take place each week led by a qualified instructor such as yoga, gymnastics or ball games. We have a particular love for outdoor learning and each day we go outdoors to learn about our outdoor environment. We offer enhanced outdoor experiences with forest school, where we take a small group of children out. Additionally, throughout the year we organise several exciting activities, outings and visits/visitors to attend the setting to enhance the children’s learning.
Tiny Tiggs setting is bright, clean, warm and light, with zones set up for the children to play, learn and engage in such as climbing frames, sand trays and reading areas as well as a small outdoor area.
We offer a snack area, providing healthy snacks and fruit, that the children have access to as well as a personal hygiene area, with fresh tissues, hand washing and nose blowing so they children can be independent and learn to look after themselves.
Tiny Tiggs operates from 9-3 Monday- Friday.
We run term time only and offer free entitlement funding for 2&3 year olds. We also accept childcare vouchers.
We also offer morning sessions 9-12 or afternoon sessions 12-3.
If you need additional child care outside the funded hours, there will be an extra cost.
Children will need to bring their own pack lunches.

Each child is unique and may need longer than others to settle in. We treat every child as an individual and take the parents' lead to work out the best plan to help settle the child in as easily as possible. This may be the parents coming into the setting for a few sessions with the child then only leaving the child for a few hours at a time. Whatever suits each child we will be as flexible as we need to be. We want to encourage the child to feel confident and safe in the setting and our job is to make it feel as familiar as possible to them.
